Mr. Paton joined the firm as a principal in 2003. Mr. Paton received his Doctor of Law degree, cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 1994, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in1990. While in law school, Mr. Paton served as the Special Projects Editor of the Cornell Law Review, participated in moot court competitions, and authored "The Government Made Me Do It": A Proposed Approach to an Entrapment Under Jacobsen v. United States, 79 Cornell L.Rev. 995 (1994). After earning his degree, Mr. Paton completed a one-year clerkship with the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department. From 1995 to 2003 Mr. Paton practiced in the litigation department of the Albany law firm of DeGraff, Foy, Holt-Harris, Kunz & Devine, LLP. Mr. Paton is admitted to practice before all State and Federal courts within New York, and is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Albany County Bar Association, and the American Trial Lawyers’ Association.

Mr. Paton's practice is focused exclusively upon satisfying the litigation needs of the firm's individual and commercial clients. Toward this end, Mr. Paton represents clients in Federal and State courts, at the trial and appellate levels, and in arbitration proceedings commenced under the Federal Arbitration Act. With respect to his representation of commercial clients, Mr. Paton provides litigation services to local, statewide, national and international companies in the areas of contract law, construction law, labor law and franchise law. Mr. Paton's litigation practice includes the representation of individuals in labor and employment disputes, as well as complex civil litigation involving catastrophic personal injury, property damage or economic loss.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Paton is currently engaged in the authorship of various articles regarding recent court decisions and developments in the areas of labor and employment law and civil litigation, including articles published in the New York Law Journal's "Outside Counsel" column. Mr. Paton has also authored written material and offered oral presentations in the fields of labor and employment law, at various seminars held for the benefit of fellow attorneys and corporate representatives.
